Art explosion! An explosion book is a compact little book that opens into a larger segmented art work. A large piece of art work is cut down and assembled into a collapsable book. Great for all levels.

In this class we will use watercolor, gel pens, markers, black fine line markers to create color markings, doodles and tangles on a 140lb watercolor paper. We will then slice the paper in specific triangles and squares to paste in the book folds. Students will learn how to fold the book and glue it together to create the pop out feature of the book.

We will cover thin cardboard (like a cereal box) to make a cover. This class is a concept and a skill of book making. What makes it fun and challenging is you can’t get too precious about the original artwork since it will be cut up and reordered into the book. It is an exercise in letting go of fixed ideas, allowing for mistakes and possibilities, along with color exploration and impact. It can help an artist get out of their head or the beginner try new things.
