Presenter
Workshop Description
Bargello is a form of needlepoint embroidery characterized by upright flat stitches arranged in repetitive patterns to produce striking motifs. Bargello originated from a series of 17th-century chairs in Florence’s Bargello Palace, which featured the distinctive “flame stitch” pattern. It was re-popularized in the 60’s and 70’s and is currently gaining popularity again in modern crafting.
In this hands-on session, suitable for both beginners and seasoned crafters, you’ll delve into the art of bargello to create a plant pot cover.
- What You’ll Learn: Foundations of Bargello Needlepoint: Understand the history and evolution of bargello, exploring its journey from 17th-century Italian upholstery to modern decorative pieces.
- Stitch Techniques: Master the primary straight stitch that forms the basis of all bargello patterns. Practice creating consistent stitches to build intricate designs.
- Pattern Reading and Design: Interpret existing patterns and gain insights into designing your own motifs. Experiment with color combinations and select from three geometric layouts to personalize your planter cover.
- Project Assembly: Assemble your stitched piece into a functional planter cover.
You’ll leave with a bargello project that – while possibly not completed in class – will have all the necessary tools to finish your project.
